Italy’s premier motorcycle show, EICMA is the latest victim of Covid-19. It was announced last Friday that the 78th International Bicycle and Motorcycle Show – due to be held in November at the Fiera Milano Rho Exhibition Centre will be postponed until 2021.
The prestigious event usually sees most of the world’s scooter, motorcycle and bicycle manufacturers, as well as the tuning houses, parts and component suppliers converging for this humungous event. President of ANCMA (the National Association of Manufacturers of Bicycles, Motorbikes and Accessories) and managing director of the company behind the show, Paoli Magri said the postponement was “A decision taken with and for the whole sector.”
Paoli continued “Responsibility has been imposed on us and makes us act on a wide scale in the interest of the exhibitors and our visitors, postponing the 2020 show with a solid convergence of intentions.”
No show
The international event attracts hundreds of thousands of bike and scooter fans from around the world. Along with the bi-annual Intermot show in Cologne, EICMA is the place to see all the new machines, parts and accessories for the following model year. Intermot and the UK’s Motorcycle Live show have already been shelved for 2020.
EICMA 2021
The show has been rescheduled for 2021 and will take place from 9th to 14th November at Rho Fiera, a few miles outside Milan.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of EICMA, Pietro Meda, emphasized that “the 2021 show will have great symbolic value and we hope that it can contribute to making fans and the whole two-wheel sector forget this difficult and exceptional situation.”
“It is our intention,” Meda concluded, “to continue protecting not only the global importance of our exhibition event, but also further enhance the strong bond with the local area and with the institutions that consider EICMA a topical and essential appointment not only for the sector.”
