Come on, we’ve all thought it: potential thieves deserve having the living daylights scared out of them, right?

Bike Mine is a theft deterrent that when tripped, triggers an ear-shattering 150db explosion via a detonator.

Inventor Yannick Read claims this is both is legal and completely safe. Fed up with having both a motorcycle and bicycles stolen in London, Yannick set out to develop something that would both frighten a thief and do more to alert passers by than a regular vehicle alarm.

Bike Mine comprises a length of titanium wire, a spring-loaded trap and a small detonator. There are no batteries to run flat, and it can be used on a variety of vehicles as well as around your property too.

Yannick is no novice inventor – he is responsible for the world’s loudest bicycle horn according to the Guinness Book of Records – and he is trying to fund the production of his Bike Mine invention using crowd-funding.

Our only concern is that an exploding Bike Mine fitted to a Lambretta with an open mouth carb that spews petrol every time you open the throttle may not be a great combination!
