Yamaha has announced today that it has signed a letter of intent, along with Honda, Piaggio and KTM to bring about a standardised swappable battery consortium for motorcycles and electric vehicles. This will enable batteries to simply be swapped over for a fully-charged one, increasing range and making electric much more viable for the real world.
The consortium will work together to define the technical specifications for the swappable battery system for electric vehicles in the L-category; mopeds, motorcycles, tricycles and quadricycles. They’ll be working closely with European and international standardisation bodies in the creation of international technical standards. Activities will start in May.
