The scooter market has not really seen Avon tyres since the days of Spartan Cling which shod old Vespas, Lambretta LDs and the like. However in recent times, the British based company (sold in the 1990s and now part of a large American conglomerate) has slowly been creeping back into this market.
The Avon Viper Stryke is based upon one of their motorcycle tyres of the same name and has been around in front/ rear specific treads for larger wheeled scooters for some time, but more recently Avon have produced a universal fitment tyre for 10, 12 and 13 inch scooter wheels.
Avon claim that these tyres have been, “specially designed for modern scooters, have exceptional tyre life, superb handling characteristics and are comfortable for long distance commuting.”
Sizes include 3.50 x 10 for classic geared scooters, as well as 90/90 and 100/90 x 10, 120/70 and 130/70 x 12, and 130/60 x 13.
The rating for the 3.50×10 is 51J, which is a load of 195kg and speed 62mph, and upon searching the internet we’ve seen prices for the Avon Viper Stryke in this size from around £22 each.
