The delicious production class scooters of Team DSC

The glorious day at Mallory Park turned out not to be the big reveal we hoped for as many competitors in the Casa Lambretta BSSO Scooter Championship seem to be saving their machines for next weekend’s opener at Croft.

Mark Cook’s Group 6

Mark Cook from Coventry has been given the support this year of 2016 overall champion Steve Conneely to build a Group 6 machine capable of winning the championship.

Trick  chassis parts include:

  • One-off removable fibreglass rear body by Chris at GRP Scooter Parts. This is not a one-piece tub, but a bonded construction of two side-panels and a separate seat arch.
  • Re-fabricated narrow  aluminium foot supports with adjustable foot positions. These are both lighter and stronger than Lambretta running boards.
  • Steering damper from frame to fork
  • Adjustable centre bracing
  • Shortened Lambretta fuel tank to clear rubber-mounted seat arch.

Engine spec:

  • Lambretta engine casing
  • Super-Monza cylinder ported by Chalkie at Replay
  • Uprated 6-petal reedvalve
  • Modified Pipe Design exhaust
  • 39mm magnesium Dellorto carb
  • Seletra programmable ignition with switchable wet/dry maps
  • LTH clutch with uprated springs

At the moment the engine delivers between 38-40hp. The legshields have been pre-drilled for a radiator in preparation for a water-cooled cylinder head upgrade mid-way through the season.

Aerodynamics have been improved with the latest version of the SLUK XL5 GP screen. Despite its small dimensions, Mark said he could really notice reduced wind-blast on his body compared to the previous session running without it.

New scooters new liveries

There were only a few automatics and Group 4 machines out for testing, but plenty of new riders in the LCGB-sponsored Production Class. This year there is a new Franspeed exhaust available with a much longer muffler to keep the noise down.

Team DSC are looking good for the season having doubled the number of scooters they are running, with Hammy’s machine going to Justin Price and last years Class 10 auto champ Steven Graves getting the hang of those strange things called gears. Scotty from Team DSC will hopefully be keeping us up to date with what’s happening in the paddock this season.

Also new this year was Eric Cope on a very crisp-sounding Darrell Taylor prepared RB200 for the class. As yet there was no sign of the lone Vespa smallframe we expect to enter the class this season, but hopefully that will surface for Croft.
