New ‘belt-and-braces’ Lambretta hub-nut securing kits from Casa Performance.
Major Miles
With the two big anniversary Lambretta rallies now looming, there are a many people who will be riding across Europe on their scooters. Obviously safety is a key issue with so many miles to cover on over-laden small wheeled machines.
Octopussy
One major weakenss has already been resolved by Casa Performance with the introduction of their Octopus 8-stud rear hub and matching multi-splined layshaft. Their forged layshafts have effectively massively reduced the chance of an axle snapping – a long-overdue issue that needed to be resolved.
These layshafts also have the added advantage of having a larger 18mm diameter threaded section (normally 16mm) and subsequently use a special M18 nut while still maintaining the standard 27mm external size, as per all Series 1, 2 and 3 Lambrettas.
Total Lockdown
In a total all-out drive to obtain a complete ‘belt & braces’ scenario with regards to safety, the lads at Rimini Lambretta have also had Vittorio Tessera produce the lockwashers for the rear hub nuts that are now both thicker than standard items and also have extra holes so that all three 7mm Allen screws can be fitted.
The thicker locking ring was chosen because in the past there have been instances where some cheaper hub nuts have come undone due to excessive chamfering on the nut and a thick washer being used under the nut. In these cases a thin locking ring fails to prevent the nut from turning.
A thing of Beauty
The beauty of these new lockwasher kits is that they can be used on any original or remade Lambretta rear hub and offer extra peace of mind for all Lambretta riders. The kits are available with or without the special 18mm rear hub nut and are available now Rimini Lambretta Centre or any Casa Performance dealer.
The X76 kit with special nut for the Octupus hub retails for around £11 (€13) while X76e locking ring and 3 screws costs £5.50 around (€6.50).
Been available from any Tino Sacchi dealer for years. Comes standard with every Tino Sacchi supplied hub.
We’d publish Tino’s innovations as well but he’s never sent any.
I’ve bought 4 of the Tino Sacchi ‘safe’ hubs and have never had a 3 point locking ring supplied…
Would just like to add that customer service from the SLUK shop has been first class after having concerns about an order.
Well done everyone!
