TS1 owners will be pleased to hear that Casa Performance have just taken delivery of their new ‘Blackline’ radial heads and pistons made especially for the ever-popular Lambretta TS1 225 kit. People have already been using the Meteor piston used in the Casa SS225 kits but due to their crown curvature, the TS1 head also needed reprofiling to suit.
As a result, Casa have made two versions of their Radiale cylinder heads to suit standard pistons with a choice of standard plug location or central plug. They’ve also made another version which is the‘Blackline’ head, specifically designed to suit their exclusive Meteor pistons.
Head alignment
The radial head is designed to not only dissipate more heat than a conventional head but these also resolve the age-old problem of alignment of the head with the actual cylinder. Normally TS1 heads internally need to be 71mm in diameter (bearing in mind the bore size is only 70mm) to compensate for the lateral ‘play’ that poor-fitting heads have on the 4 cylinder studs. The Casa heads fit centrally thanks to the simple addition of two steel dowels. Two of the original mounting holes in your TS1 barrel need to be drilled using a 10mm drill bit, to a depth of 5mm to accommodate the dowels (full instructions will come with the kit). The addition of these dowels ensures the cylinder head is then perfectly aligned with the cylinder bore when assembled. Simple and effective.
The Casa Performance pistons are also graphite coated externally. The coating is designed to help during the running in process and will naturally wear off in use. The pistons are made exclusively for Casa Performance by Meteor to the same spec as their SSR250/265 pistons so should be well capable of withstanding the kind of power a TS1 produces. The two-ring piston is available now to suit the 225cc kits in both 30mm and 39mm compression heights, with a choice of A, B or C Grades.
