Our Cleethorpes competition questions caught a lot of you out, we had more wrong answers than right ones I’m afraid. If you got it wrong you either need to brush up on your scooter rally history, or check the clues out properly.
Here are the correct answers and the reasons behind them.
Question 1: Cleethorpes National Scooter Rally started in 1998 (20th anniversary this year) so technically the one in July 2018 will be the 21st rally in the town. All National rallies yeah?
Wrong, one wasn’t actually a National, but which one I hear SLUK readers ask?
Answer: B 2006, Cleethorpes gave away its National status in 2006, swapping it with the South West Scooter Clubs so they could run Exmouth as a National.
Question 2: Which National (on the rally t-shirt) never actually happened?
Answer C: Alfreton. The Mansfield Monsters rally at Alfreton was stopped by the police because a large bikers festival (Rock & Blues Custom Show) was on over the same weekend a couple of miles away and they couldn’t police both. That change to the calendar saw the Monsters and Olympics joining forces to put on the first ever Cleethorpes National in 1998, the rest as they say, is history…
