Many of us dream of travelling on our scooters but other than the odd Euro rally we struggle to break the monotony of everyday life and it remains nothing more than a dream. It doesn’t have to be that way though, a Greek couple are currently 2.5 years into a Round The World trip by Vespa PX 200 and they don’t plan to stop until they’ve explored every corner of the World.

If you’re going to Mersea Island this weekend you can meet Stergios and Alexandra, although for this flying visit to the UK, ‘Kitsos’, their trusty 2003 Vespa PX 200 has had to stay home, the couple will be riding there on a pair of Scomadis instead, loaned to them by Scomadi UK.

Overland
The couple flew into the UK yesterday and will be giving talks at the Overland Magazine event in Oxfordshire (Overland is an independent motorcycle travel magazine) on Friday and Sunday. In-between that they’ll be hopping on the Scomadis and manning a stall at Mersea Island on Saturday where you can meet the inspiring couple and grab yourself a copy of their book about the African stage of their mammoth trip. Make sure you pop over and see them.
Stergios and Alexandra both left Greece in 2013 after becoming disillusioned with their countries economic situation. They didn’t know each other at the time, Alexandra left Greece and was working in the Congo, whilst Stergios had set off with a friend for the trip of a lifetime. Only to be left alone after the friend bailed out two months into the trip. Before he left, Stergios was unemployed and virtually skint. He sold his Aprilia, his bicycle, an old mobile phone and with three T-shirts and a pair of jeans he set off on his trusty Vespa.
We’ll fill you in more about the story next week on SLUK. Alexandra and Stergios will also be letting us know how they got on at Mersea and what they thought of the Scomadis.

Rice & Dirt the book
Their 2017 book, Rice & Dirt, has just been translated into English and one of the first copies landed on my doormat this morning. If the first few pages are anything to go by it’ll be hard to put it down. We’ll review the book soon and you’ll be able to buy a copy through the SLUK Shop next week. In the meantime have a good look at the couples website, World Vespa to find out more about them and their journey so far. It’s well worth a look, it has detailed costs for every part of the ‘on a budget’ trip and you can donate a few quid to help them continue if you feel inspired by their journey.
