If you own a metal bodied scooter (Vespa GTS owners will be particularly familiar with this problem) and you live in a climate where the liberal spreading of road salt is a regular winter occurrence you’ll know that corrosion can be the bane of your life. It doesn’t have to be though and SDoc 100 is your first line of defence against that nasty reddish brown oxidising menace.
What does SDoc 100 do?
- Protects all metal parts and stops existing corrosion in its tracks
- Self-healing: the protective coating re-closes immediately after being touched
- Improved penetration: even works in hard-to-reach places
- Perfect for winter lay-up
- Lubricates and displaces moisture
Salt and water corrosion can cause lasting and sometimes irreparable damage to scooters and motorcycles, it will make an otherwise nice looking scooter look rough and uncared for. Rusty fasteners, corroded parts and pitted frames devalue your scooter and can lead to permanent damage.
It’s crucial to make sure your machine is well protected throughout the winter season – whether you’re riding through or laying the bike up until spring – so alongside washing, regular treatment with a corrosion inhibitor is vital.
Self-healing
SDoc100 Corrosion Protectant shields all metal parts against salt and water damage, and if used regularly, can stop existing corrosion in its tracks. Formulated in the company’s German laboratory, it leaves a transparent, protective, self-healing film on your bike’s metal surfaces – which re-closes immediately after being touched – to shield against salt and water. It also lubricates and displaces moisture.
Application
Application couldn’t be simpler, just spray directly from the can – no messy pre-treatments or fiddly applicators needed. Built-in penetration properties mean that even areas you can’t reach can benefit from its corrosion-inhibiting action.
Price/availability
SDoc100 Corrosion Protectant is priced at £13.99 for a 300ml aerosol can. For details on the complete SDoc100 Motorcycle Care range, visit www.motohaus.com
SLUK Guards
Of course, we’re scooter riders at ScooterLab and one of our early plastic products came about because I was sick of the front seam corrosion on the various Vespa GTS’ I’ve owned (as are many of our readers no doubt).
We developed the original SLUK Guard to stop some of the spray and road muck from getting thrown directly at the troublesome seam on the bottom of the GTS legshields. Later we introduced a longer ‘Ultra’ version (above right) and recently a new 2018 model GTS SLUK Guard to suit the later models slightly different mudguard. We have also added to the range with the Primavera (above left) and Vespa PX SLUK Guards.

New products always in development…
I will not buy another Vespa again until Piaggio publicly declare in their promo material that the rust problem has been resolved by properly galvanising the sheet steel and then by properly finishing the weld seams and paint finish on the inside of the frame. Taking my money elsewhere after 37 years and 22 Vespas, auto and classic. I’ll buy a Scomadi instead.
Wonder if it’s as good as ACF50
