Cosmoto cranks for 36bhp Simonini conversion | NEWS

In the UK Simonini are known mainly for their exhaust systems but they actually build some pretty powerful, lightweight and compact two-stroke engines for use in the microlight world. The aviation derived cylinder kits have become a fashionable scooter conversion, (especially in Germany) and Italian tuning house, Cosmoto are building specific cranks to suit the conversion.

700cc two-stroke

Simonini builds two-stroke aviation engines from 130cc right up to 700cc but the cylinder kit in favour at the moment is the 266cc Mini Evo 2, as supplied by SIP here.  It’s not a simple bolt-on kit, more of a base for some further serious tuning work but results are impressive, with 50-60bhp not unheard of. Although Alex at Cosmoto aims for a more reliable 36bhp at 7500rpm using the 72.8mm 65 stroke cylinder and one of his cranks.
