Stolen scooter found thanks to SLUK tracker | NEWS

If there’s one thing we hate at SLUK it’s a thief, especially a scooter thief. So it was great to receive an email from a SLUK reader recently. Nigel had bought one of our Moni Moto trackers in February and hidden it on his Vespa GTS.

About a week ago (21st March) he got a call from the tracker to say the scooter had moved. This was at 22:09. Nigel quickly went on to the app on his phone and tracked the scooter to a dark back alley where the scooter had been hidden behind three wheelie bins. Nigel said, “It was so dark that I didn’t spot the scooter until I was a few metres away.” The scooter had obviously been hidden ready for the thieves to come back and collect later.

One of Nigel’s friends had already phoned the police as he ran off to try and find it. They arrived on scene at 22:09 (a very reassuring response time for a stolen scooter).

Minimal damage

With the scooter safely tucked away, Nigel had a good look around and most of the damage was cosmetic, “Steering lock damaged, ignition key barrel hole damaged, mirror snapped off, handlebars out of line with forks. Price of all the bits to repair it £80 – no labour as I’m doing it myself (a mate is plastic welding the panel from the rear so should be nearly as good as new).”

A good result all things considered as I would never have found it without the tracker. If you haven’t already purchased one I’d do it sooner rather than later – best £142 I’ve spent for a long time! Extremely easy to set up and hide  – the only thing I did was swap the batteries for Duracell ones.”

No batteries, no wiring – Moni Moto tracker

We’ve been trying out the Moni Moto since last summer and were so impressed that we decided to sell them through our shop. There are cheaper alternatives but this self-contained unit is really simple to set up and use. It can be used on classic or modern scooters, there are no wires so you don’t need a battery on your scooter. It can also be moved from scooter to scooter, ideal if you own a few and will be leaving one on a campsite or outside a seaside B&B.

Or buy one here: Moni Moto

Alternatively, if you own a modern scooter and want a hard-wired tracker we suggest you try a Datatool Trakking.
