What makes you tick #1 – My scootering life in sidecars | FEATURE

Trikes and sidecars have always baffled me, in my mind, they’re for people who are scared of riding around corners on two wheels. Or for folks who have some kind of disability that stops them from riding an ordinary scooter. Perhaps others are just taking advantage of the age-old ‘ride what you want if […]

Pole Position and the Vespa T5 | FEATURE

In motorsport, ‘pole position’ is the place at the front of the starting grid which offers the racer occupying it the best possible start to the race. Here they will not only be in front of rival racers but also in the best position for the first corner, whether on an oval circuit or […]

Taking a SLUK back at 23 years of Whitby Rallies| NOSTALGIA

Large scale scooter rallies have been met with some serious opposition over the years. Local residents and councils with the ‘we don’t want you in our town’ mentality, police forces not wanting extra trouble to deal with, and the very real threat of the Government’s Public Order Bill were all obstacles put in our […]

** FINISHED ** 14-day corona lockdown custom Primavera build | FEATURE

Judging by the emails we’ve already received and the amount of scooter builds going on in sheds, garages and front rooms around the world I think the coronavirus lockdown is breeding an epidemic all of its own.   A couple of years ago, Blackpool based, Mike Collum sent us a little timelapse video of […]

Missing that Easter Friday seaside ride? | FEATURE

I’m sure many of us are feeling a little strange this morning. We all know the drill, spend all week faffing about with our scooters, then get it packed up for the first National of the year. We’ve already arranged to meet our friends and club mates. Probably have a bit of banter on […]

Not A Motorcycle Shop – New Zealand | FEATURE

Not A Motorcycle Shop is the brainchild of Mike Salmon, a dyed in the wool Scooterist and a New Zealand and UK industry qualified motorcycle mechanic. In 2012 he left his full-time job with Wellington’s largest motorcycle dealership to stay home and look after his kids.   He started taking scooter jobs in his […]

Reader’s ride #1 Coventry to Italy | FEATURE

We asked SLUK readers to help the ‘war’ effort by knuckling down and writing about their scooter trips, stories, tips and builds. We’ve had a few articles and ideas sent in already, thanks to those who’ve got involved. We need some extra content for the site whilst rallies and events aren’t taking place. We’ll […]

SSS – Scomadi Special Series | FEATURE

The Scomadi Special Series ‘SSS’ was mentioned in our recent feature on the new factory and for many Scooterboys (and girls) this particular offshoot for the brand will be of special interest. It takes an ‘off the shelf’ production scooter and turns it into a factory spec special edition designed to the customer’s requirements. […]

From knacker to cracker – Lambretta S2 build | FEATURE

The process of turning a rustic relic into a head-turner can be fraught with hidden perils, as can owning more scooters than the missus deems to be strictly necessary. Even so, writing one-off in order to build the scooter you forgot to tell her about isn’t always the safest option. SLUK reader, Jerry tells […]

Long termer: Vespa GTS Supertech – the end | FEATURE

Our long term Vespa GTS has gone back to Piaggio after the best part of seven months in the SLUK toy cupboard. I managed to hang on to it for an extra month but sadly it had to go back in February, leaving a battleship grey, Vespa-sized hole in the garage.

Behind the scenes at Scomadi Thailand | FEATURE

Scomadi timeline at the new factory – remembering their roots   I’ve followed the Scooter Innovations and Scomadi story from day one and have written numerous features and stories about the brand for various publications over the years – and of course for ScooterLab.   I watched the story develop. From bespoke hybrid Lambretta […]

Castle Capers North Wales scooter tour | FEATURE

If you’re into scooters you’ll no doubt enjoy having a purpose for a decent ride. Just nipping to Matlock (or the seaside) for a bag of chips every Sunday like the local bikers doesn’t really cut the mustard. Sometimes though the lure of a far off destination is too time-consuming so a challenge closer […]
