SIP have just released this teaser video for their forthcoming analogue-look digital speedometer for modern Vespa scooters. Unfortunately it’s in German but there are English subtitles.
What the video reveals is a clever new ‘power test’ function that allows you to use the scooter as a sort of primitive dyno.
By selecting this function you can conduct acceleration runs up to a pre-determined speed to compare whether specification changes (like different variator roller weights) actually make a worthwhile acceleration difference, or if you are simply making the engine sound different.
This could be a cool function to introduce on SIP’s range of classic Vespa and Lambretta speedometers.
The speedo is due to be released in 2017. No word yet on price.
