Are you heading to Kalkar for an all-inclusive German weekender? Here’s a quick look at some of the new for 2017 attractions.
The first weekend in February sees the return of Scooterist Meltdown. In case you’ve slept through the last few years, this event is an all-inclusive event set in the sprawling confines of a former German nuclear power station. It’s fairly easy to get to, around 140 miles from Rotterdam, or there are regular cheap flights from most UK airports if you’re too nesh to ride there.
For just €219 you can eat and drink yourself silly whilst partying with a thousand or so scooterists from the UK and abroad. Think Pontins/Butlins style chalet accommodation with a subterranean maze-like linked warren of bars, restaurants and arenas and you’ll start to imagine what this entertainment complex and family holiday resort has to offer.
Organiser and SLUK contributor, Marcus (above left) told us the weekend can now be extended to a mini break from Thursday to Monday (2nd February – 6th February) making it even better value for money.
Let’s face it, you can spend a similar amount on a dodgy B&B in Blackpool and still have to feed yourself for the weekend and buy all your drinks. People staying for the full weekend can expect a Thursday night warm up do and a chilled out Sunday with a bowling match and cult films being shown at the on-site cinema.
Marcus also said “We now have a couple of live bands (the Superlatives and the Fortyfives, R’n’B from Bristol) and a completely new area for live gigs on the Friday and Saturday night, also there will be live performances during the daytime.”
A free dyno shootout will also be part of the daytime fun so expect some mad German Vespas to take on the speed hungry Brits, categories include large and smallframe Vespas and Lambretta. There will also be a huge indoor trade & custom show
