It’s no lie to say that the fourth generation Speedfight has some spec worth shouting about. Peugeot has upped the ante in the looks department too, inspired by their very own 2008 Dakar Rally Car, The Total Sport version of the two air-cooled models available here comes in Matt Black bodywork with “Total” racing livery. It also has contrasting red air intake inserts, a snazzy red stitched seat, rear spoiler, passenger seat cowl, aluminium footplates and Micro Lamp LED turn indicators. Let’s face it, you’re never going to set the world on fire performance wise on one of these, but you might as well look the part.

Pure

 

Arguably not quite so sporty looking but still a good looking bike is the Speedfight Pure. It has some aesthetic refinements too, namely rose gold alloy wheels with matching air intakes and headlight surrounds. It also has the passenger seat cowl, alloy floor plates and stainless handlebar ends.

 

Handling

 

Both of these models have USD 32mm diameter fork sets and an oversized 215mm Shurricane front disk brake, with 4 piston caliper. This, compared with the low profile equipped 13-inch wheels, means these little bikes should be punching well above their weight in the handling and stopping stakes.

 

Gadgets and Gizmos

 

Both come with easily accessible 12V and USB Sockets, as well as a pre fitted RAM® X-Grip®  smartphone holder. There’s also a digital multifunction onboard computer for you to play with, should you ever get bored of the 28mph top end of any learner legal 50cc bike.

 

What’s the damage then John?

 

The Speedfight 50 Pure and Total Sport each retail at £2199 (you’ll need to add on the Government’s first registration fee and Vehicle Excise Duty – £72) and are covered by a two-year unlimited mileage parts and labour warranty. Both can be ridden on an AM licence, making them accessible to anyone aged 16 or over. AM category scooters can also be ridden by anyone who passed their car driving test before 1st February 2001, without the need to take any extra tests.

 

Not a bad price given the specification Peugeot are offering here and at £150 less than their liquid-cooled brothers, what’s not to like?
