Following hot on the popularity of Dirt Quake comes Dirt Diggers, a weekend of dirt racing on the Eddie Wright Raceway in Scunthorpe. The organisers already have a few classic scooters entered so if you fancy a go you can ride pretty much anything with only a few minor safety modifications (taped lights/self-closing throttle etc.). It only costs £50 to enter.
Clothing isn’t too strict either, the entry form states: The minimum clothing requirements are stout trousers and a heavy jacket that fastens fully, good quality gloves, stout boots that cover the ankle and a suitable helmet in good condition, with either a visor or goggles – please note that sunglasses are not acceptable for safety reasons. In addition, we very strongly recommend a full face helmet and some sort of body armour. Trust us, we’ve been around oval racing a long time, and these tracks bite. Thinking you look cool loses its appeal when you are sat in A&E. We want everybody to have a safe and enjoyable day, and the onus is on you to dress accordingly, but for your own safety, if we think your clothing isn’t suitable, we will not allow you to race.
