You may have seen a video on Facebook, or were at the track, or caught the live BSSO race feeds yesterday. If so you’ll have witnessed an unprecedented series of scooter crashes. Two separate incidents on two different parts of the track caused scooters to go down like dominos. Thankfully no major injuries to the riders themselves (well the odd broken bone) but the damage to the scooters is much more serious and costly. Here we have on-board footage from one of the incidents.

The Darlo Destroyer
SLUK former Production Class Champion Barrie Braithwaite is truly the Darlo Destroyer. He was back on track only long enough to take part in a horrendous crash that not only destroyed the scooter he’d borrowed from Dave Marsden, but also took out all three scooters running for privateers Team DSC.
The crash was caused after 2017 Production Class champion Justin Price was edged onto the grass as the front runners entered the straight. Justin’s scooter pinged him off before it flipped back taking out team-mate Steve Wright’s Runner. Then it was hit again by team-mate Stephen ‘Hammy’ Hamilton. As scooters went everywhere to avoid the carnage Hammy’s static Lambretta was then collected by unsighted Barrie Braithwaite.
Transplant list – can you help?
Thankfully, apart from Hammy who broke a collar bone for the 10thtime, all of those involved are walking wounded.
The same cannot be said for the scooters however. After massive impacts at least three machines are needing GP forks, headsets, bodywork and even possibly frames.

New products always in development…
I’ve got some Indian GP headset tops and bottoms, they’re ill fitting so too much time and trouble to adapt to fit road going GPs but they’ll be fine on race scooters that don’t require a headlight. I’ve also got some poor quality Indian GP forks that should be OK for race scooters. I may even have some creased legshields that I’m willing to donate.
