Piaggio Ape racing is probably the best fun you can have on three wheels. With 112cc of Malossi powered two-stroke breathing through a 19mm carb and “Power” exhaust system it’s always going to be a laugh. The British championship, formally known as the Malossi Piaggio Ape World Championships was run at Lewis Hamilton’s early proving ground, Rye Hill in Surrey. It’s much tamer than the balls out Italian style of Ape racing but still entertaining.

 

The video above features Rory Reid, (of Top Gear) fame as the team from Carfection pilot these nippy little machines around the circuit. Sponsored by VE UK, the championships featured many VE products, including all the Malossi tuning goodies, crankshafts, clutches, spare cylinders, bearings, tools and even a cab heater for those colder race events.
