News reached us this morning and spread like wildfire across Facebook (as I’m sure many of you saw) that long-standing scooter parts dealer, Beedspeed Ltd is in liquidation. Before we all bury them, is this as black and white as it seems? The Companies House info can’t be argued with for sure but they wouldn’t be the first scooter business to rise from the ashes after restructuring.

The Grimsby based shop opened in 1983 and gained an enviable reputation for its quick and very reliable mail order service. Originally set up and owned by Alan Beedham, the shop flourished for over 30 years and moved to larger premises in the early 2000s. Alan and wife Sylvia sold the business as a going concern in February 2016 and retired.

Despite details of the liquidation (from Companies House) being spread around this morning, the Beedspeed website is still live and taking orders, its also advertising Christmas gift ideas and their Facebook page is active and up to date.

We’ve spoken to General Manager, Dan Burton at the shop and he told us “It’s business as usual here”. He went on to say the shop has been “Undergoing some internal restructuring” but didn’t want to elaborate too much, or discuss the finer details of the insolvency. Our thoughts are that being absolutely clear and transparent is the best way to move forward once a situation like this develops. If the business is to carry on it needs to regain customer trust. When pressed as to whether the company owed money to suppliers when it was liquidated he assured us that no suppliers were out of pocket, all customer orders (and refunds) have been completed and although Beedspeed Ltd may be no more the shop is looking forward to the future.

Dan assured us that they have invested heavily in a new warehousing system, and eCommerce website since they took the business over in 2016. He admitted that like any parts based business there are going to be issues occasionally, with orders being sent out incorrectly but he told us they currently work on a 94% stocking system so most parts are available off the shelf. He also explained that it’s not always the shop’s fault if something is out of stock, some of their suppliers don’t keep stock of everything and it can lead to delays along the supply chain. He was keen to reassure people that they plan to “Get the business back to what it once was.” He also pointed out that their three day long Black Friday sale event saw the most traffic to the Beedspeed website and created 500 new customers.

  Open for business
We have seen online that some customers have been receiving refunds this week (before the news broke) and orders are still going out. The shop is most certainly open today and the phones are being answered. It seems the insolvency notice was posted by a disgruntled customer (a customer who the shop have been trying to track down for a while to refund him, according to Dan). Yes, it’s true that Beedspeed Ltd is no more but as far as we’ve been told they’ve not liquidated to avoid paying debts…    Beedspeed has invited us up to the shop in the New Year to have a look behind the scenes and we’ll no doubt take them up on the offer. Beedspeed’s reputation has certainly suffered under the new ownership but is it as justified as it seems? It’s usually the minority of customers who post comments about bad service, whilst happy customers just get parts and forget about the transaction.
Let us know if you’re a happy Beedspeed customer/supplier (or not as the case may be).

Please don’t associate the new Beedspeed Ltd UK registered company name with ScooterLab.UK. The ‘new’ Beedspeed business was set up and registered under the name of Jade Elizabeth Smith on 19/10/2018, a couple of weeks before Beedspeed Ltd was liquidated. Now that, Dan and Victoria Burton can no longer be company directors Jade is sole director.

Hello,

I want to let all scooterist and trade people know about Dan from Beedspeed and what he did to us. We are manufacturers and suppliers of Lambretta and Vespa parts from 1980s. We were the only supplier of Beedspeed from India from last many years and we were supplying him more than 1000 parts for Lambretta and Vespa, I am also good friend of Alan previous owner of Beedspeed, we had such good relations with Alan from Beedspeed that we used to supply parts before getting advance money, after delivery of goods whenever we need money we used to get money from Alan without any problem for many years. Then Alan goes on retirement and sold Beedspeed to Dan, We trusted Dan Beedspeed like we trusted Alan from years, so we did offered same service to Dan, in starting Dan was shocked that how we sent parts before getting payment, we told him all about relations with Beedspeed Alan. After some time we faced many problems with payment issues, he had made many fake promises and words. He stopped replying back and not even answering calls from us or even any new number from India. Still we have to take more than £20000 from him. And we have all proofs of his fake words and promises.

I had read what Dan said to you in the interview, everyone knows when a company goes bankrupt , there is no chance that he can prove he is all good with the company and customers. HE IS A FAKE BUSINESS PERSON, he also cheated many customers, all the experienced staff members in Beedspeed left job because he was not even making payments to staff. There is only one experienced staff person left with Dan’s Beedspeed all other left him as you can imagine why so, you can even ask Alan previous owner of Beedspeed who made that team, I am sure Alan also knows all this. Dan have to pay many other suppliers within UK and all over the world, I thought that we should let you know all what he did to us and maybe many others customers can be saved from losses.

Also check attached list of total amount Dan’s Beedspeed owes to other people,

I got this list from his liquidators, as you can see our name in his list.

Thanks any questions ready to answer.

Regards

Angad

Beedspeed Ltd was wound up owing £300,000

Above we’ve published an email from Angad at Kohli Auto, a reputable Beedspeed supplier for many years. Angad told us “He (Dan) is not going to pay any of the money he owes me back. I’ll get nothing from anywhere.”

Trading on the once proud and honourable values of the former owner (Alan Beedham), it appears that Dan Burton and wife Victoria (Beedspeed UK was run under Victoria’s name) owe Kohli a not insubstantial £20,000, although that is the tip of a much deeper iceberg.

Looking at the insolvency report (pictured below) it also appears that Beedspeed Ltd wound up owing £296,405.32 to a list of 16 creditors, including £166,000 to HM Revenue & Customs. Many of the debts also appear to be to money lenders/financial backers who no doubt bankrolled Beedpeed Ltd based on its past good financial history and goodwill.

Update 16th December 2020

It looks as though the Beedspeed/Dan Burton saga is still ongoing. Everything written here is already in the public domain and can be viewed at Companies House. The term ‘Buyer Beware’ is certainly appropriate when dealing with this company or the individuals behind it.

January 2024

We still get emails and updates about Beedspeed from concerned suppliers/debtors.

As of January 24th, 2024 Beedspeed (or BSLUK as they are on Companies House) are facing another compulsory strike-off from the CH register for failing to submit accounts. It also appears that Dan Burton has been allowed back on as a director and the company has had more changes and chances than a little.
