Next month sees a classic venue from the very early 1990s brought back for a one-day event put on jointly by ScooterLab and ScooterNova Magazine. ScooterExpo promises to be more than just your usual run of the mill custom show, this will be a curated exhibition of 100 of the finest classic and custom scooters of all time, plus a little bit of entertainment and a relaxed vibe.
We won\’t release details of the scooters just yet but suffice to say some of them won\’t have been seen or shown for the best part of 30 years. Some of our entrants were part of the old NSRA Alfreton Trade & Custom Shows at the Derbyshire venue back in 1990 and have been dusted off especially for this BRAND NEW event. These scooters aren\’t coming in the hope of winning loads more silverware, they\’re coming because they want to be part of this prestigious new show.
Showgoers choice
Talking of trophies, we\’ll only have a couple of them up for grabs – Exhibitor\’s Choice and Showgoers Choice so don\’t expect to have to watch a million handshakes. These two trophies will be decided by the Alfreton entrants and of course the public, so be sure to use your vote wisely on the day.

One thing many custom owners have criticised over the years is the way shows are judged, that\’s why we wanted to curate a show rather than just have any old machine there just to make up the numbers. We\’ve ended up with 100 classic and custom machines, all of which have earned their place to be there. Believe us, we have some iconic scooters both old and new.
All of our Alfreton 100 owners will get a limited edition commemorative medal to take home.
Alfreton 100
We had to increase our original \’Alfreton 75\’ to the \’Alfreton 100\’ because demand was so high and we\’ve still had to turn some cracking scooters down. If you were one of the ones who didn\’t get in don\’t be too upset, you were amongst some great company and we had to draw the line somewhere.
Feel free to come and show off your scooter outside though.

If you\’re looking for Union Jack braces, pork pie hats or Doc Martin stand feet I\’m afraid we can\’t help you.
However, you will be able to see the latest developments from JB Tuning/Casa Performance, Gran Turismo, Targa, Malossi, Pinasco and many more on the day. Cambridge Lambretta will also have Charlie Edmonds on hand to answer your questions. The ScooterNova stall will be there with back issues and the latest mag, plus their merchandise and the SLUK Plastics stall will be there with our full range of scooter parts.
Chill out zone/Pool
We\’re planning for some lovely weather and will have a chill-out zone between the two halls with a pop-up bar selling a selection of tipples (and soft drinks). We\’ve also booked \’Erik The Viking\’ to serve some fantastic local street food from a recently converted vintage caravan. This is street food rather than fast food, expect the finest ingredients and taste bud tantalising food. If you prefer something quick (and a bit cheaper) the Leisure Centre also has a cafe near the swimming pool and there\’s a bar in the Bowling Hall.
If you\’re bringing the kids the pool is open all day so fetch your Speedos (normal pool charges apply).
Norrie Kerr and Sticky will be regaling you with scootering stories during the day.
Legends room
We have a couple of special guests to entertain you in our Legends Room, none of whom need much of an introduction but Norrie Kerr and Sticky will be chatting about their scootering histories and answering questions during the day. The Legends Room is inside the Bowling Hall and will be limited to around 50 people at a time. Times will be displayed/announced on the day.
UPDATE – Wishing Chuck well
Our old friend, Chuck Swonell was also due to share some of his wisdom and anecdotes but since posting this story we heard the news that Chuck had a stroke at the weekend and is quite poorly in hospital (although he\’s a little brighter today and is hoping to be moved to a local hospital later in the week).
We wish Chuck all the very best in his recovery.
Saturday evening & camping
We know quite a few of you are already booked into local hotels and no doubt a few faces will be out and about in Alfreton on Saturday night. The town has a selection of pubs, including a Wetherspoons and micropub.
We decided not to put an evening event on because The Prodigy are holding their own rally the same weekend in the Manchester area. However there is a local Motown & Soul night in South Wingfield, just over 3 miles away and Scooterists are welcome (it\’s £3 on the door), you\’re also welcome to camp there for just £3. It\’s at South Wingfield Social Club and more details can be found from Paul Francis on Facebook here.
