Earplugs aren’t exciting to write about, they’re not too sexy in use (depending where you stick them) and they won’t make your scooter any faster but they’re something every rider should be wearing.
These certainly aren’t the cheapest earplugs you can buy but they are very good at what they do. The original Mk1 Auritech earplugs were great but were also translucent, I lost one after a few months. Thankfully the ‘New & improved’ Mk2 version comes in a much easier to find orange so should be easier to spot if dropped.
Improvements
Aside from the brighter colour the updates also include a new more ergonomic design for a better fit. The shell uses a new hi-tech thermoplastic material to give maximum comfort and a long life. They also have a venturi shaped channel running through the centre of the filter, it’s made from a zirconium oxide ceramic material to deaden the sounds you don’t need to hear (wind noise/nagging pillion) but it still allows the important stuff like your rattling engine and traffic noise to filter through.

In use the Auritech plugs are extremely comfortable, even after a full day in the saddle. They do exactly what it says on the tin (incidentally they come in a screw top meta l tin with a keyring loop). Anybody who doesn’t wear earplugs because they think they won’t hear a change in engine noise just before it blows up, or won’t know if they’re being chased by the police is the kind of person who really needs to start wearing them before they lose their hearing permanently. Every time we ride without ear protection we risk irreparable hearing damage due to the high levels of wind noise we’re subjected to – so get yourself protected before it’s too late.
£19.95 might be expensive for a pair of earplugs but these are washable so can be used for years. They’re also very good at blocking out unwanted noises, whilst filtering the stuff we need to hear. Auritech work out about a third of the price of custom fit earplugs but are much easier to use (I have a pair but never use them), they also do a better job than cheap foam type plugs.
