I promise this is the last story about EICMA. I’m sure you’re overloaded as much as we are but there is just so much to see there that it takes time to sift through it all. To give you some idea on the size of the place here are a few facts and we’ll pick out a few items of interest, the rest will be captioned in the gallery.
EICMA facts & figures
- EICMA takes place at the Rho Fiera Exhibition Centre a few miles outside the centre of Milan
- The show occupies 280,000 square metres of space. Including 85,000 sqm of MotoLive shows and attractions
- It features 1278 exhibitors from more than 44 countries (in comparison, next week’s NEC Motorcycle Live has 122 exhibitors)
- During my three days at the show, I walked 60,167 steps (28 miles) and ate my own body weight in pizza. I still didn’t see everything…
- You can get lost very easily
MotoLive
Aside from the main exhibitors, there’s a full-sized motocross track and stunt show outside. There are also loads of ‘have a go’ riding attractions, including an electric mountain bike cyclocross track (I crashed on there, did a full-on Superman-style slide across the polished concrete and ended up with grazes and damaged limbs. No, that’s not me in the video).
There’s enough MotoLive stuff to keep you entertained (or in hospital) for a full day.
Arai Profile -V
Since we covered the launch of the new Arai Profile-V earlier this year the range of colours and designs has increased immensely. For an entry-level Arai, it’s a great helmet. Quite a few friends have since bought one.
Armadillo Pipe Guard
Here’s a product I’d not seen before, Armadillo Pipe Guard is a flexible silicone ‘elastomer’ 2-stroke exhaust ‘skeleton’ that helps to reduce vibration. It’s also abrasion and impact resistant and will help protect the rider’s legs from heat (ideal for that cutdown project with crazy exhaust routing). It comes in black or red and fixes to your exhaust using three hidden jubilee clips so it can be removed easily for cleaning etc.
MV Agusta Motocarro
Here’s something you don’t see every day, an MV Agusta Motocarro. The three-wheeler, looks very similar to the Lambro three-wheelers and was built using an MV motorcycle in 1954, built to be used as a delivery truck. Later a four-wheeled Autocarro was introduced and used as a motorcycle delivery truck (amongst other things).
70s Helmets
One of the coolest looking stands was the 70’s Helmets booth, lots of metal flake and one-off designs. If you’re into cool headwear take a look at SIP, they stock the brand.
NOT A SCOOTER ALERT!!
This is definitely not a scooter but it’s certainly pretty special. The AMB 001 a collaboration between two iconic British brands, Aston Marin and Brough Superior. It’s a limited edition (100 units) £93,000, 180bhp, turbo-charged 997cc 88º V-twin… and it’s not even road legal. If you fancy one to start up in the garden and impress your friends you can order one here.
Yamaha Tricity 300 and new T-MAX 560
If you’re a big scooter fan you’ll want to tune in to SLUK towards the end of next week. We’ll be riding the new 560 TMAX in Lisbon, full road test and video coming right up.
The new supersized Tricity 300 is set to upset a few manufacturers in the 3-wheeled sector. The scooter can be ridden on a car licence (unlike the original Tricity 125), comes with the powerful liquid-cooled 300cc BLUE Core engine and looks very mean up close. We’ll look forward to testing one out when they arrive. Find out more about it here.
John Doe Boots
These boots may well appeal to some of you, they’re ‘John Doe Sixty Bordeaux Budapest Motorcycle Shoes’ I reckon they went a bit overboard when naming them but they look smart. We stock a similar boot, By City Brogue Boot, have a look here.
Kymco CV3
The world of trikes gets more varied year by year. Kymco were showcasing their CV3 concept, it’s close to production-ready and is said to be the most powerful three-wheeler in the scooter class so we’ll watch this one with interest. Like the Tricity 300 it’s a big old machine but looks very Kymco-family-like and uses a higher-powered version of the 53bhp AK550 engine.
RevoNEX
Kymco teased about an electric maxi-scooter before the show but unveiled an electric naked bike instead. The RevoNEX is a 120mph, six-speed manual with an Active Acoustic Motor to replicate the sound and feeling of riding a ‘real’ bike rather than electric. Hopefully we’ll get an electric maxi scooter from Kymco with similar traits.
Reveno STC Clutch
You couldn’t help but be drawn in by the Malossi MHR-powered sprinter on the Reveno stand. Their STC – Seamless Transmission Clutch is available for most modern autos and is said to minimise vibration and power losses. The CNC machined clutch is similar to the type found in many modern motorcycles and they’re said to sound similar to the dry clutch used by Ducati whilst your scooter is ticking over. SYM Maxsym 400
Taiwanese scooter giants SYM proudly presented their 40bhp, Euro 5 ready Maxsym 400i, their first twin-cylinder scooter. The Maxsym replaces the previous single-cylinder Maxsym and is said to have the handling characteristics of a bike, thanks to 50/50 weight distribution, a short wheelbase and single-sided multi-link rear suspension. It also features an ‘All-in-one air purification system’ to help meet Euro 5 regs, it’s a compact airbox to maximise storage space (two helmets can fit under the seat – one full face, one open), enhance airflow and low RPM performance. We’ll look forward to seeing this when it arrives in 2020.
There was an abundance of grey scooters at the show, it really is the new black.
