The designer and man behind Italjet
Massimo Tartarini had the unenviable job of not only bringing back an iconic 1990s scooter but improving the design for a 21st-century customer. “No one had ever dared so much”, proudly affirms Massimo Tartarini, “We succeeded in recreating one of our biggest international hits of the 90s, thanks to our passion and new style concepts, welcomed by market with such enthusiasm.”
Are Italjet back at work?
Due to the Covid-19 emergency, Italjet re-opened officially on May 4th, having implemented all safety procedures. Italjet’s worldwide suppliers are gradually returning to business. Everyone is working hard to reduce the wait for Dragster fans, but this slowdown will lead to an inevitable postponement of the date of production.
When will the Dragster go into production?
The current forecast is that the Dragster Limited Edition 125/200 production will start in September 2020, standard model production will follow immediately. Colour options will be anthracite/red/white, anthracite/yellow and black/gray.
Prices?
The New Dragster 125cc will be sold in Italy at 4900€, 200cc at 5400€. Suggested retail price in other countries may vary according to the different VAT rates and any taxes and duties.
Believe the hype?
Despite not actually hitting production yet, the new Italjet Dragster is already getting people talking. Forbes Magazine have elected it as ‘One of the top five scooters to be driven in 2020.’
Hopefully, owners will be lucky enough to ride one this year.
There’s no doubt that this is a stunning piece of design. It’s different enough from the original Dragster to be able to stand on its own two feet (or wheels as the case may be) but to also be recognised as an Italjet Dragster by previous owners. Personally, I still have an original Dragster and it doesn’t look dated even though it’s 20-odd years old. The new Dragster may not have the potent 2-stroke power of the original but it’s got the looks and should inspire a new breed of rider.
Italjet’s UK marketing manager, Bobby Beck (above) said “It’s a truly unique product that has some astonishing fans, I’ve had messages from celebrities, film directors and even a designer from one of the worlds’ finest supercar manufacturers. For a new product to be this well-received so quickly is almost unheard of in the motorcycle industry. Most vehicles take years to achieve an iconic status, it would appear the new Dragster is practically already there, and it’s not even hit the market yet.”
