WHERE: on the way to Velden scooterrally, Austria.
WHEN: 1986.
WHO: Michael Powolotti.
WHAT: What scootering is about – riding these things up and down the country.
WHY: I am addicted to this lifestyle.
This was the first outing of my totally illegal cutdown and my friends and I thought we are the epitome of cool scooterboys. Little did I know that my metalflake helmet must have been already retro in 1986. But hey, it might be cool now, 30 years later.
This was on the way to one of the first scooter rallies that was organised by scooterboys in Austria. The few before were either a Mod thing or official Vespa Club rallies. This was ours!
The scene was small at this time but very dedicated, so everybody around our country that was into the scooter scene tried to get there. The expectations to the weekend ahead were very high. The feeling I had when arriving at the rally is still the same I have now – getting there is the most important thing, no matter how you get home and how you feel when you ride home with your massive hangover, it´s the weekend that counts!
