WHY: Mum and Dad’s honeymoon
Here is a picture of my mum and dad on his Lambretta GP125 which he bought for £200 and kept for 2 or 3 years.
They got married in 1973 and went to Great Yarmouth together on this scooter for their honeymoon. The fur on the backrest was from one of my great grandma’s old fur coats.
This was their only form of transport and my dad tells me he never broke down on it. (two up on a 125? come on dad stop telling porkies). They went back to Yarmouth on it the year after they got married and got knocked off it, by a Luton van in Terrington St Clement. Dad said “The van came on to our side of the road and I had to ride between that and a scrap wagon, I ended up scraping down the side of the lorry, taking all my mirrors off down one side”.
It looks like scootering was in my blood before I was even born.
