The unexpected collapse of UK\’s previous Kymco importer – MASCO Ltd – has no doubt left owners and dealers in the brand feeling nervous about ongoing support.

 

Thankfully, a new UK distributor – wholly owned by the Taiwanese scooter giant – has been found in Bridgend-based Kymco Mobility Ltd. They are the current distributors of their electric pavement \’peds for the elderly and infirm.

We caught up with Mark Hermolle, MD of the new distributors to find out how things were going to work in the future as Kymco Mobility grows to become \’Kymco UK\’ and sets up its own division aimed at motorcycles scooters and quad bikes.

 

SLUK: What is the situation with warranty on scooters already sold by Masco – will you honour those warranties?

Mark: KYMCO will absolutely honour its warranty obligations to its customers, that have purchased via our previous partner \”Masco\” for any product that are under their current warranty period.

 

What is the situation regarding the current dealer network. Do you plan to expand or contract the number of dealers?

KYMCO will analyse the current dealerbase and ensure that there is good coverage to support our joint customers fully, throughout the UK and Ireland.

 

What is Kymco Healthcare\’s experience in dealing with the motorcycle and scooter market?

KYMCO Healthcare UK LTD is very experienced at supporting Mobility Dealers and is a market leader in this field. The new structure for \”KYMCO UK\” will include a division focused on Motorcycles, Scooters and Quads.

 

Do you plan to take on any of the Masco staff?

Any Masco staff wishing to join the KYMCO UK motorcycle team, will absolutely be considered for appropriate positions, in the new structure.

 

How soon will we start to see new models, like the AK550, in the UK?

It is early days at the moment, due to the liquidation process. We will analyse the current and future product line-up, to ensure that our dealers have the very best products available to offer, suitable for the market\’s needs and compliance for current and future regulations.
