We announced in our Casing Wars article that UNI Auto in India are working on a replacement Lambretta 200 engine casing to counter the supply and quality problems coming from Scooters India Limited.
The first stage of UNI\’s move into the engine casing market has been to make a new version of the Lambretta GP (DL) side casing with completely fresh tooling using the same die casting method as the factory casings.
As if by magic, a sample of the new UNI side casings appeared with us from our friends at The Scooter Republic.
Upon first inspection it looks like a very handsome replacement part without all the ugly casting marks found on parts produced with worn-out tooling. This side casing is a replica of the GP one so at the moment it is not drilled and threaded to take the the early kickstart ramp, however this is likely to be altered in production to make it is backwards compatible with LI/SX engines.
The due date for these side casings is the around the end of May. Price is still to be determined.
