The Zündapp Bella from the abstract rock-n-roll excess album cover of Oasis’ 1997 ‘Be Here Now’ is currently on sale with London dealers Ted Owen & Co. They have it listed as ‘Price On Application’.
The 1955 200cc Bella, registration 514 FMK, comes with a V5 document showing Liam Gallagher as a previous owner. It was included at his suggestion as part of the cover shot by photographer Michael Spencer Johns at the former home of Victor Lownes, head of the UK’s Playboy Clubs. Speculation about the hidden meanings of the random articles in the image seem to have been answered by Johns as nothing more than an assembly of items that the brothers liked from the BBC props department…
Ted Owen & Co are apparently hoping for a cool £20,000 for the uber-cool 200cc German scooter behemoth, despite it previously passing through Bonhams auction for a far more reasonable £4,080.
The Zündapp Bella retains a cult status in native Germany due to solid build and reasonable performance for its era. When it was last sold the scooter was declared not to be in a roadworthy condition, but if you wanted the ultimate in rideable Brit-pop memorabilia it would be well worth restoring it. How cool would it be to see this back on the road or even parked in a swimming pool?
