Without the Quadrophenia-effect the scooter scene may well have faded-away by now. It’s a love-hate relationship for many and this new film looks set to breed a whole new generation of mods/scooter riders if it becomes successful.
You probably noticed the Kickstarter campaign and promo for this film, it’s been on-going for a couple of years. Fundraising led to a trailer being shot in summer 2016 and many road-going scooter riders were part of the scenes, with a good mixture of scooters amongst them.
The plot centres around ‘The Boy’ – John, as he sets out on a pilgrimage to Brighton, to scatter his dad’s ashes. John discovers more about his Lambretta-riding dad than he ever knew when he was alive.
Written and directed by Chris Green, a filmmaker inspired by Paul Weller and who came up with the plot on a flight back from Ireland after meeting his hero, Pebble & the Boy is set to become a full length film.
This trailer will give you a feel for it, whether or not the effect will be good or bad for the scooter scene will have to be seen. Whether you love it or loathe it, this now looks like a project that’s gone from kickstart to full-throttle.

Good concept and maybe a good film….strikes a chord personally as my wife’s late husbands ashes are scattered at Beachy Head….where The Who filmed the Jimmy going off’ve the cliff scene on Quadrophenia. It’s part of our history as a scene and I’d definitely give it a look just for that. There is no such thing as bad publicity I guess…hope it does well
When is the full film being released?
Chris – according to their FB page they are “looking for a 2018 release date”
