Autumn 2010 and I landed a job in Nottingham. It introduced a handsome daily commute of 56 miles either way, or more if I fancied the scenic route via the lanes.

I did as any sensible commuter would do and invested in a 4 year old low mileage Vespa GTS 250. I actually purchased the bike from a North London Piaggio Technician. Naturally, he’d looked after it.

It came suitably equipped with a Tucano Urbano Termoscud, which I doubted aesthetically at least, at the outset. Of course, the decent autumn turned into a not so decent winter and that’s where the Termoscud really came into it’s own. As leg covers are concerned it was great, ducting warm air from the legshield mounted radiator out through the ducts in the glovebox and straight on to my chilly pins, Lovely!

The following spring, things became a little to warm and the only real option was to remove the Termoscud completely, which was somewhat of a chore.

Wind the clock forward 7 years and the guys and girls at Tucano Urbano have released their latest Termoscud, with a removable winter layer so it’s good for all seasons. It also boasts an all season waterproof rain cover, quintessential for British summers.

The new Termoscud Pro is currently available for a number of auto’s but sadly not the GTS at this moment in time. I guess it only may be a matter of time?

All Seasons

The italian manufacturer needs no introduction, they specialise in quality Urban Riding gear and scooterists form a large part of their market. They’ve announced their “fall and winter” range (very American) and their flagship product is the new Termoscud® Pro. It’s a four season versatile modular leg cover intended (as their PR team suggests anyway) for urban mobile professionals, but I reckon it would suit more than that – particularly if you fancy doing this year’s Meltdown on your MP3.

It’s raining, it’s pouring

It’s handy having a leg cover which protects you from outer moisture whilst avoiding the aggravation of moisture inside generated through perspiration. The new Termoscud® PRO provides this functionality and comfort – hand’s up those who’ve seriously thought about ditching the scooter and taking the car as soon as the dark clouds appear? For guaranteed waterproof protection, the leg cover features HYDROSCUD® construction, which comprises of an outer cover in resistant / waterproof 1680 Ballistic and Dobby Poyamide, as well as taped seams.

One fit suits all

The truth of the matter is that the new Termoscud® PRO need only ever be fitted to your scooter once and as long as you don’t mind the aesthetics, this has to be a good thing. During the Summer there is no need to remove it from the scooter: just remove the thick quilted winter part (which Tucano Urbano say can be done in less than ten seconds) and leave the rigid spoiler fixed to the bodywork, from where an emergency rain and seat cover can be pulled out when needed.

No need to flap

To prevent the Termoscud® PRO flapping at high speed, the leg cover is equipped with the patented S.G.A.S. anti-flap inflatable system, with a new valve fitted with incorporated cap and watertight closure. There is an adapter included for manual or pump inflation, making inflation more hygienic (Than gob power alone) and prevents air from leaking during valve closure. Another unique feature is the Smart Holder System, designed for the waterproof smartphone pouch holder (sold separately), which is fixed magnetically.

Safe and secure

As with it’s predecessor, the PRO features an anti-theft ring, reflective profile and a large storage pocket, as well as a seat cover stored in the bib, as well as an emergency rain cover for use in the summer.

How much and what will it fit?

The price for the new Termoscud® PRO is £169.99 plus the associated postage charges. This works out to be £25.00 more expensive than the less versatile Termoscud® EVO, at £144.99 which also remains in the catalogue.

Currently, the PRO is available for the Honda Forza 125 and it will arrive soon for the Piaggio MP3 and Piaggio Yourban. In the next few months, it will also be available for the Yamaha X-MAX 300, X-MAX 400, T-MAX 530, the Suzuki Burgman 400 and the Kymco AK550.
