Upcycling is all the rage these days and what better way to find a use for some dodgy old Vietnamese/Indian Vespa/Bajaj frames than to cut the back ends off and turn them into furniture. Ideal for a trendy bar, home or back garden ornament.
Smithers
These images were sent into us by Smithers of Stamford, a trendy ‘shabby chic’ furniture place selling all manner of recycled bric-a-brac, often made from cobbled together components. The shop is owned by scooterlad, turned treasure hunter, Nick Smith. Amongst his various machines Nick has owned a Lambretta auto twin in the past and now rides a suitably shabby looking Lambretta Series 1.
Nick says these chairs are made from the remains of a Vespa Rally and some recycled old boat wood for the floor, although we beg to differ on the origins of the scooter. Thankfully the body used for these isn’t quite as collectable as a Rally. Even so you could probably buy a complete running Bajaj for the cost of one of these strangely upholstered chairs. The Vespa chairs retail at an eye-watering £1000 in a choice of black or grey but can be painted to any colour of your choice and are usually made to order. Each one is unique so if you fancy something different have a look at Smithers. The shop also sell some upcycled Vespa lamps.
