At a time when many Scooterists are confined to their sheds and garages (what a nightmare), SIP wanted to remind us all about their Lambretta crankshafts. They were launched back in 2018, (as featured here) and are available for all Lambretta Li/TV/SX/GP/DL models.
The cranks feature a stronger GP style 25mm flywheel side stub and come in two conrod lengths, 107mm and (smoother running) 116mm – as used in the TV 175. These are also suitable for kits using a reduced 30mm compression height, as opposed to 39mm. The conrods come in a choice of standard or polished finish.

Complete Spanner’s Lambretta kit book
Sticky has spent the last few months locked in the dyno room at Diablo Moto whilst feverishly building and testing multiple variants of tuned Lambretta engines for his forthcoming ‘The Complete Spanner’s Lambretta Kit Book.’
The book is due out towards the end of summer.
SIP cranks on the ‘Dyno Donkey’
Sticky has been using the SIP cranks for his test bed motors and claims to have put them through around 900 dyno runs. He told us “I chose the SIP cranks to use for testing in the Kit book because they seemed to offer a good price/quality ratio and because they offered both of the rod lengths I needed (107mm standard and 116mm TV175).”
“There are cranks on the market that offer higher-end features such as pressed-in balance weights made of exotic metals, but since I had a range of piston weights to test it was more important to use cranks that were reliable. Not having pushed-in weights means balance with any given piston is always going to be a compromise but it also means one less thing to go wrong”.
So far through 900 or so dyno tests both cranks have performed well and remained true which is as good as you can hope for. How these cranks perform long-term on the road is something that I still have to investigate.”
