I’ve ridden in Arai helmets since around 2004. As a young scooter lad it was always a brand I aspired to use to protect my bonce. The Japanese family-owned business has a different philosophy on helmet design and manufacture to other leading brands.
Arai’s whole ethos is based around shell shape, strength and ‘glancing off.’ Their hand-laid multi-layer shells are rounded and any protrusions (vents etc.) are designed to come away in a crash scenario rather than them catching on things and increasing the forces of the crash to your delicate head. Their helmets aren’t mass-produced by machine, each helmet is hand made and finished. Hence the reassuringly expensive price tag.
Arai don’t believe in internal sun visors or built-in intercoms (although they do come with a peel-off foam insert around the ears to allow you to fit headphones comfortably for your intercom. There is also a specific low-profile Sena intercom specifically designed for Arai). They also don’t currently make a flip-front helmet. The reason for this is that helmet strength is usually compromised by the need to have a few mm shaved off internally to accommodate your sun visor, or intercom and until the Japanese boffins at Arai design a flip-front lid that is as strong and safe as a conventional full-faced helmet the Arai family won’t make one.
Official supplier
Anyway, that’s enough about all the boring stuff. We just wanted to announce that earlier this week ScooterLab were appointed as online retailers of the Arai brand. This means we can now supply every Arai helmet, plus visors and accessories.
Buying a helmet online
Most Scooterists already know what size they are in their favourite brand of helmet, so if you’re an Arai user already you can order your regular size – no problem. If you’re unsure it’s always worth trying a helmet on in a shop if at all possible but you can also measure your head easily enough at home. It’s also easy enough to buy from us and swap if there’s a fitting issue – a helmet needs to fit properly.
Buy genuine Arai
There are many counterfeit helmets on the market. The rule of thumb is that if you see an ‘Arai’ (or another leading brand helmet) advertised at bargain prices it may well be a fake. Always be sure you can trust the seller.
The helmets we supply will be sent out direct to you from the official UK importer/distributor of the Arai brand. They’re boxed and packed very well and sent out with trusted couriers. These people send crash helmets out to customers and world-class racers every day. You get all the same warranty and support you’d expect with the Arai brand from any other retailer.
Available now
We’ve spent a couple of days so far this week listing most of the current 2020 Arai range. We still have a few more to add, plus the visors and some accessories. If there’s anything you can’t find just send us an email and we’ll check on availability, or list it.
Please bear in mind that current UK stock levels are low due to the coronavirus.
AGV & RST
If you’re an AGV fan, or wear RST kit we can also supply those. We’re going to be busy listing them over the next couple of weeks but the same applies, just email us if you’re looking for something and we’ll order it for you.
