That’s it for the 2019 scooter rally season already, where did that year go? Hopefully, you’ve enjoyed our rally coverage this year. As always we cover every BSRA National Scooter Rally, plus other large rallies like the Euros, Mersea Island and quite a few of the smaller events in-between.
2020 rally coverage & advertising

What’s that smell?
Warmwell is South West Scooter Club’s end of season rally, held on a holiday park, set in a forest – with log chalets and for the more adventurous a dry ski slope (I’m not that adventurous). It’s always a great way to end the season. With an easy 70-mile ride ahead of me on Friday I go out to the scoot to head off to work Thursday night, switch on the ignition, watch the speedo power up (I have a SIP speedo) and see the fuel warning light glowing… Thoughts are running through my head, ‘Why is the warning light on? I’ve got a quarter of a tank lef… oh shit….’ Yep my float had stuck and I’d done the schoolboy error of not turning my fuel tap off, dumping my petrol on the floor (Ed: Obviously Booga has no sense of smell whatsoever!)
Whatever floats your boat
Fast forward to Friday morning and a quick trip up to my local scooter shop to get a new float and needle. With the carb sorted I finally get going. I’ve got about 30 miles of motorway with the rest of the trip on A roads. Once off the motorway, I can enjoy the ride through the New Forest, up towards Bournemouth and then on to the nice windy Dorset country roads. For me these roads are perfect; fast enough to get where I want to go, but fun enough to fuel my mojo. After a lovely (if rather cold) two hours ride I arrive at Warmwell. Off to the chalet, warm up and have a quick beer. That as you can probably imagine was the first of many…
The Modules
Friday’s band was the Modules, who as the name suggests play a mix of 60s, soul and mod covers. When the lead singer says ‘Do you like The Kinks?’ Yes I do (saw them live in 1980) and I have to say a cold shiver runs down my spine. I needn’t have worried though as they played a great version, and generally played a great set which kept the room bouncing.
Saturday daytime saw the custom show, parts fair and another live band, Chasing Rainbows, though I suspect a fair few Scooterists took the opportunity to have a siesta before Saturday night’s shenanigans began!
Special Brew
Those shenanigans started for us, as it did for many others, in our chalets. Beer, wine and shots to get us in the mood for the night ahead. Once in the mood, we head up to the venue, for more of the same, though I had to take one of our number back to the chalet and put her to bed early. You lightweight Tania! The Special Brew had the Saturday night spot, I’ve seen them before and do enjoy their Bad Manners antics, with a few classic ska tunes to mix it up a bit, lucky it wasn’t raining as we’d have all got wet as they raised the roof!
Saturday ends with cheesy chips (a rally staple for me) and bed. Sadly I missed Sunday night’s party as I had to head home, but I’m reliably informed it was a typically good SWSC party. So that’s it for me for this year, see you at Sandford for the Modrapheniacs pre-season rally next year?
