Spotted in Milan recently is this rather nifty, budget and fun alternative to the Tucano Urbano Termoscud lap covers.
The usual style Termoscud lap cover attaches to the legshields of your scooter and provides full weather protection for the rider from the waist down, as well as the chest area if you strap it up fully. They are scooter specific and retail from around £80. And yes, I am a fan of these. Trust me, if you ride through the winter and haven’t tried one yet, do it. They are great! Tucano have brought out a new more user-friendly version, the Linuscud a lap cover that doesn’t need fitting to the scooter.

The Linuscud offers similar protection against the elements but is worn by the rider making it a more universal product. The outer shell is made from polyester, it provides waterproofing and because of its design there is no need for any fixing points on the bike. This, and the fitted shape, prevents flapping at high speed. For added protection there are pockets designed to hold knee protectors in place and reflective inserts help to keep you visible in poor conditions. For convenience, the leg cover has a built in storage bag too.
It is more suitable for scooters with a flat floor rather than a high central tunnel though, but with prices starting from around £39.99 it will no doubt be a viable option for some. The Octopus model is a tie up with an Italian fashion house so has a premium price. Don’t worry, plain black is also available, although the crazy legs versions do look fun!
