This Tucano Urbano jacket has become one of my favourites, ok it’s not too fancy looking, there aren’t loads of over -complicated features, or sophisticated fibres to explain and it isn’t really warm enough for winter but I still love it. It’s a thin, short jacket and even with the D30 armour in the elbows (shoulders and back are an optional extra) it still isn’t bulky to wear. That in itself makes it feel comfortable, more like a casual jacket than a riding jacket. That’s exactly what Tucano aim for, they’re a company built on well-dressed Italian commuters.
Just because it looks good doesn’t mean the 2Cilindri isn’t practical though. It’s breathable so is good in summer, it’s windproof and waterproof. It also has neat high-viz fold away cuffs and collar, they’re more of a clever design touch than the usual in-yer-face high-viz options.
Material wise the exterior shell of the jacket is made from a Hydroscud® Polyamide which has a high wind and waterproof rating. It also features taped seams and a Polyester thermal padded liner. Tucano like their stuff to be practical so the ‘Find it easy®’ pockets are all in the right places, from passport and phone pockets to sunglasses and gloves. Although if you’re anything like me I usually just end up using the side pockets for everything.
Lab report
I’ve been wearing this for over a year. Initially I wanted a lightweight jacket to wear on foreign scooter launches but since then I’ve used it as a regular ‘going out’ coat, I’ve ridden plenty of miles at home and abroad in it and still love it. It’s proven to be waterproof (although I’ve not ridden long-distance in it). It’s warm enough to wear in all the seasons, except winter and still looks great.
