Tucano Urbano Termoscud Pro | NEWS

A few weeks ago we were invited down to London to let Tucano Urbano demonstrate their new 4-season Termoscud Pro, a leg cover for “Urban mobile professionals”. If you’re a regular commuter in or around a big city you’ll probably know all about this particular brand of leg cover. Get to London and you’ll see them on scooters everywhere. It was like a well-orchestrated product placement event by Tucano.

4-season system

It takes about 15 minutes to fit the Termoscud Pro and because it’s designed as a 4-season system you should be able to leave it attached to your scooter all year round. In warmer weather you simply remove the thick inner winter quilt, it takes less than ten seconds. Once removed it leaves the spoiler attached to the bodywork, complete with seat cover and emergency rain cover, which can be pulled out.

The cover is made from Hydroscud® treated 1680 Ballistic and Dobby Polyamide with taped seams so is strong and 100% waterproof.

S.G.A.S Anti-flap

Nobody likes excess flappage, luckily the Hydroscud Pro comes with the latest patented S.G.A.S. anti-flap inflatable system. It has a new valve with incorporated cap and watertight closure. There’s also an adaptor included so it can be pumped up using a pump rather than orally. Once inflated it keeps the Termoscud rigid.

Anti-theft

There’s an anti-theft ring to allow a chain to be passed through the Termoscud, it also has reflective branding so you can be seen on the road.

My usual commute is a walk down the stairs to the office so a leg cover isn’t much use to me but for somebody riding to work every day and wanting to keep work clothes looking clean, dry and smart a Termoscud certainly does the trick. Simply jump on board, pull your leg cover over you and away you go. There’s also a bib and braces that can offer additional weather protection if you need it.

The Termoscud is specific to each machine and has clear plastic panels on the MP3 we rode so that you can see the buttons on the dash. There’s also a key cover which allows you to use the ignition and you can also buy a separate Smart Holder System for £22.99 to hold your phone and allow you to use it as a Sat Nav if required.

Unfortunately for us (and Tucano), it was a lovely warm autumnal day, rather than a cold, wet and windy one, so like wearing a coat indoors we didn’t really get to feel the full benefit. Having said that though the Termoscud certainly radiates some heat around your legs so I can imagine its well worth having through winter. It feels slightly restrictive when you first get on board but you soon get used to not seeing your legs but you can still put them down easily enough (not that you need to often on the MP3). The leg cover is tighter than a nun’s chuff as well, no flapping in the wind so it’s not likely to irritate you on faster rides.

I can’t say it’s something I’ll need (unless it gets cold in my office chair this winter) but as could be seen around our Capital City thousands of regular commuters swear by their Termoscud and no doubt will update to the latest Pro version if they swap scooters or need to replace theirs.
