Vespa GTS wins award for third year | NEWS

Three years on the trot and a Vespa wins the ‘Best Scooter’ category in the Autotrader Best Bikes 2016 Awards.  The Vespa GTS Super 300 keeps lifting the title because it is, in Autotrader’s own words “A class act that blends the best of style, fun and frugal running costs”.

They do nitpick in a couple of areas, one stating that heated grips would be a nice addition because not all owners live in the warmer climbs of an Italian setting. The other negative for the Autotrader reviewer is the side stand, hmm yes have to agree on that one, it is not the most robust of side stands but in fairness it does hold the bike up but only just and you can be forgiven in thinking that it could collapse at any time, it probably will!

The GTS scores highly in design, practicality, ride & handling, reliability, performance and braking but unfortunately falls somewhat short in the warranty,  servicing and equipment categories.

Anyone who owns or has owned any GTS over the last few years will probably agree with most of those scores, servicing being possibly the biggest bugbear of all, too frequent and very costly. Piaggio have sorted that one out with the latest Euro 4 GTS, service intervals have doubled to 10,000km now.

On style there is nothing that is comparable to the Vespa and 70 years on it is still outshining the competition and still manages to turn heads wherever it goes!
