This Saturday, September 11th there are two opportunities to watch six hours of close combat scooter endurance racing LIVE. Firstly, you can be at the side of the track at Teesside Autodrome watching and smelling it for FREE! It’s the first time spectators have been allowed since September 2019 and no doubt it will be very busy.

The other option is to watch the brilliant Alpha Timing live feed. Sponsored again by AME Auto, ScooterNova Magazine and us at ScooterLab, plus contributions from fellow racers, individuals, race fans and a few businesses (more about the fundraising later). The video feed above will start ten minutes before the race on Saturday so you can pop back to this page and watch the live feed on Saturday from 10:50 am.

If you saw any of the coverage from Whilton Mill in April you’ll know you’re in for six hours of TV-quality race footage – with non-stop scooter racing action. Have a look here for the Whilton video, just to get you in the mood for some serious two-stroke action.

Serious contenders

Since The first TSide6 event back in September 2019, the sport has grown and things are starting to get more serious, as happens in racing! The good thing about endurance racing is that reliability and consistency count for a lot, it’s a non-stop 200-odd lap six-hour marathon rather than a quick eight-lap sprint race. Outright performance isn’t as important as getting the laps in and with a road class, it means pretty much any geared full-frame scooter can enter and the riders just need to have a road licence and protective equipment.

The grid for Saturday’s race is the biggest endurance grid so far. Rumours whispered behind the scenes are that we’ll be seeing a few new big horsepower contenders, including a Casa SSR 265 (that should be interesting) and Stuart Day’s SRP RaceTech satellite team, fielding a 38bhp specially built Lambretta Series 1. British Scooter Endurance’s main man, Keith Terry tells us a bit more below…

With the lifting of Covid barriers we will now be able to welcome spectators back to enjoy the fun. -Entry is free but a donation to the Just Giving page to help with the live broadcast costs would help. The lifting of restrictions also means we have teams coming that could not attend Whilton, we have two teams coming from Ireland running under the same team banner of Tuatha De Danann fielding one Lambretta and one Vespa. Even over the Facebook pages, you can already feel the excitement of some of the riders, we love that, and it is the fuel that pushes us to organise these events. Another first for us, we will have what effectively could be called a championship with the total laps from both 2021 rounds added together and the team with the most laps in each class picking up a very nice trophy. As far as I know at this time we have 37 teams starting the event and nine of these are new teams wanting to come out and play. There is still some room on the grid and even this late in the day if you want to give it a go, get in touch through the BSEC Facebook page, you would not regret it!

Team IDK Endurance Racing fundraiser

Costs for the live broadcast have more than doubled after the Whilton mill introductory offer. The sponsors have stumped up a fair wedge of cash to make sure it happens again but Team IDK Racing have also kindly set up a JustGiving fundraiser to ensure the live feed can take place. With a target of £3540 and £2547 so far raised, there’s a fair bit of money still to collect.

If you’re planning on watching from home (or on your mobile whilst out and about), or if you’re planning to spectate at Teesside please spare a few quid. It’s quick and easy to donate and a tenner or so will make a difference. Any money raised over the target will go towards making sure the next British Scooter Endurance Racing round is also televised (well YouTubevised actually).

Remember, spectating is FREE but chucking some money in will help.

If you cast your mind back to Whilton Mill (read about it here) Shaun had a little crash in Friday practice and ended up breaking his shoulder. He’s back riding again on the road and plans to be fit enough to race on Saturday.
