Casa Performance’s new bolt-on kit brings a whopping power increase to the smaller capacity J and Luna ranges; without the need to change the original stroke crankshaft.

The prototype kit with cast manifold for standard Vega carb is pictured above but the finished kit is due for imminent release and there’s a special pre-order introductory price available now.

Due for release soon, the CP One05 will also include a piston and gaskets. They will come in handy I reckon.

Bigger Brother

So the CP One35 reedvalve kit revolutionised the Lambretta J-range and Luna line, turning even the humble J50 into a rally-worthy scooter capable of travelling at highway speeds.

Casa Performance’s 135 is undoubtedly an impressive piece of kit, but it’s also expensive to implement because for any 50cc or 75cc J/Luna engine it requires a change of crankshaft from 44mm stroke to 48mm stroke.

While you are about it, then you may as well fit different gearing, a better clutch, a new carb and maybe a 12-volt electronic ignition. Suddenly, souping-up a humble Innocenti 50 starts to cost serious chunks of change.

What if you want a serious performance upgrade but don’t want to splash so much cash?

• Included stainless steel adapter allows fitment of standard Innocenti manifolds and carbs

• The cylinder head has 7-point fixing and the combustion chamber centralises inside the bore

Enter the One05

The logical solution is the CPOne05: a revised version of the CPOne35 concept for short stroke cranks. It features the same combination of Italian-made aluminium cylinder with Nicasil lining and a Wossner or Meteor piston.

The inlet is still a 4-petal reedvalve, but unlike the One35’s inlet rubber, the One05 comes with a stainless steel adapter plate allowing you to use your original Lambretta manifold and carb.

So, if you don’t need to change the cranks or the carb then already this is making the conversion much cheaper. Furthermore, if you retain the standard carb and exhaust then it’s quite possible to stick with the original clutch and gearing too.

Casa Performance have been quietly working on this kit for eight months; putting a prototype version through its paces and honing the final specification.

Come here, there’s more

The One05 is not a straight short-stroke version of the One35. In fact the port arrangement is far more modern with triple exhaust ports, possible due to the smaller bore size.

You also have the option of a pair of upgrade cast aluminium inlet manifolds which will suit either the Lambretta J SHB19/19 carb, or alternatively the Dellorto SH20 for the Lambretta Vega/Cometa/Lui 75. This carb is also available as a remade part from Scootopia. Casa Lambretta also remake the Vega-type air filter.

The optional aluminium cast manifolds (two versions) cost 60 Euros each and include a specific ‘stuffer’ for the reedvalve.

What do I need to modify?

Very little. The reedvalve inlet takes up a little more space which requires some enlargement of the cut-out in the cowling. Luna-line scooters will also need some slight trimming of the rear mudguard.

50cc models require some additional enlargement of the cowling around the spark plug hole.

Bulky reed inlet requires some cowling trimming.

What’ll it do Mister?

The unexpectedly good news is as much as 10hp at the rear wheel using a 24mm Polini carb and Casa Performance MaxiBox exhaust; which fits both the Luna line and the J range.

If you use your standard carb and exhaust then the output will obviously be less, but at least there is a clear and easy upgrade path if you want it.

Before you sniff that that 10hp seems like quite a modest amount of power, remember that this is roughly the same power output as a standard Vespa PX200 and those will happily exceed 60mph all day and it’s coming from a 50cc engine that made around 1.5hp when new.

Souping-up a J-range or Luna just got a whole heap cheaper.

• Four exhaust stud arrangement reduces the chances of leaks with a suitable pipe but still accepts original 2-stud exhaust systems

• The base gasket area matches a standard casing but it also has plenty of leeway for Grindr action (if you want an enlarged hole)

How much cheaper?

Scooterlab.UK are breaking the news on this kit in conjunction with a pre-launch offer. At the moment the CP One05 is expected to go on sale later in June 2022 once Casa Performance take delivery of the pistons from Wossner.
