The overalls winner…boom boom
Now in its 37th year the ‘Bristol’ classic has long since outgrown its Bristol harbour-side warehouse roots and is based at the Bath & West showground near Shepton Mallet in Somerset.
A hugely popular show that has continued going from strength to strength. It has by now firmly-established itself at the heart of the vintage 2-wheeler scene & attracts some of the finest examples of motorcycling history ever seen in one place.
Admittedly somewhat scooter ‘lite’ compared to the Carole Nash Classic Bike Guide Winter Classic at Newark, but then a publishing company’s sponsorship of the specifically scooter designated part of the show makes a ‘scooter world’ of difference… Nevertheless the Bristol show continues to provide a D.I.Y. dose of scooter satisfaction guaranteed.

As well as the year-in year-out ever-changing solo scooter entrants, Bristol Classic has its reliable 2 wheeled shopping trolley show stalwarts. The Vintage Motor Scooter Club continued their mission of spreading the gospel of the wild weird & wonderful aspects of scootering history.
With the 70th anniversary their stand was fittingly more Lambretta heavy than in previous years. Local lads & show regulars Soul City S.C. from Street, Somerset, put on a fine spread of 10 of Mr Innocenti’s finest.
Show newbies the Wessex Lambretta Collective (made up of Scootermaniacs S.C., Exit 17 S.C. & Bristol L.C.), in the marquee on Friday set-up, with the rain streaming through on the floor, stood a one-off line up of the Lambretta family tree – Model A to GP with everything in-between.

The weekend’s sunny (& almost warm) weather made for a higher than previous years, biblical weather influenced, footfall as both the inside show & outside dealer areas were rammed throughout. The V.M.S.C. took a well deserved best scooter trophy with an immaculate Lambretta Model B, while the Wessex Lambretta Collective got a ‘commended’ (ironically enough) also with a model B.
All in all a great weekend in top company. The next West Country event is the Bristol Italian Automotive Festival, (search BIAMF), where the cream of Italian 2 & 4 wheeled Italian engineering (Lambretta is this year’s featured marque) squats central Bristol (Corn St BS1) on Sat 22nd April 2017
