Since lockdown was eased in the UK, more and more commuters have woken up to the fact that they can own and ride a scooter for less than the price of their usual season ticket for public transport. Scooter sales for August were up by 39.5% on last year and motorcycle sales were up by 31.2%.
Since COVID-19 turned the world upside down, people have quite rightly chosen alternative modes of transport in an effort to keep away from the enclosed spaces of the bus, tram, train and tube.
PCX 125 tops the commuter charts
The top-selling 125cc scooter is the unstoppable learner legal Honda PCX, with 237 units being registered in August. You can read our head to head PCX versus Piaggio Medley review here.
Car licence only?
Commuters who want the benefits of two wheels but with the added safety and stability of three wheels are opting for the Piaggio MP3 300 HPE (pictured at the top of the page). We also tested the new Yamaha Tricity 300 in July. Both of these machines can be ridden on a car licence with no further training/tests or even a CBT.
Going green?
The sales of electric PTW’s have grown by 38.7% for the year to date, with 1350 sales so far. Electric scooters are on the rise in the bigger cities, (as well as further afield) and are also proving more popular with delivery riders. You can read a review of the Niu GT here. If you’re riding you need to get into the right gear
I have been 2 wheels for 13 yrs but recently switched from 1000cc to 300cc but its actually 279cc forza love the scooter just want it more bigger powerful but still with the £45 tax band lol.. fuel economy I can take a hit on the forza is very good at fill ups around £8- £10 every 2 wks
