Last weekend saw 40 racers from differing parts of Europe descending on a stormy looking Nürburgring for the Scooter Center Cup. Due to Covid restrictions, spectator numbers were limited and each team were only allowed two mechanics/helpers but this didn’t put off riders from across Germany and Italy.

Phlipp from Scooter Center Cologne gives us the highlights.

Racers came from various disciplines and championships, including the European Scooter Challenge and the European Scooter Trophy. Tino Sacchi and Timo Drack of TD Customs were there on their Targa Twins. The Vespa Club of Germany were also present. Thomas from Italy raced a Lui equipped with the Super Lui engine casings, fitted with a Mugello 225 and a modified BGM Vespa Sport Big Box. Zweirad Kübler from Bonn (a big player in the official Vespa dealer world) came with a Runner and a PK. Tim from Overrev raced his Simonini equipped Smallframe.

125mph Lambretta?

The Casa Team came with Luca Zani’s restricted SST 265 (#79) which they will use for endurance racing in the future. It was restricted mainly by the VHST carb but was still putting out 40hp. Luca Fuschini’s #479 was running the new liquid-cooled Casa SSR 265, this gave 56bhp and was bloody quick. The fastest speed they achieved was 186 km/h. Micky from Rimini Lambretta Centre told us “This was a fresh build, we still need to adjust settings and final drive but in better conditions, 200kmh will be easy…”

Just in case you’re wondering, that’s 124.5mph!!

Our friend Dennis – a Scooter Center customer since day one – came with Team Paul. They also did well with the rider, Andy Reid.

BGM Big Box Sport on track

Our Alex Stroh tried the BGM demonstrator on the track. With only around 22hp he wasn’t going to set any of the fastest laps, but it was a good chance to use the bike on the track and test the new BGM Big Box Sport Clubman and he did very well at the constant time measurement.

The next Scooter Center Cup – September 26th

Scooter Center are hoping to hold the next event at the Nürburgring on September 26th – hopefully without any restrictions on travel, teams or spectators it will entice a few UK teams over as well…
