tucano winter

Tucano Urbano are firm favourites with scooterists throughout Europe. They’re a brand we choose to wear ourselves at SLUK and are happy to sell through our online shop. We wear Tucano because their products are always stylish, they also work and aren’t overly expensive.

The new Tucano ‘Winter is the new Summer’ campaign kicked off earlier this month with the aim of showing that with the correct kit you can use your scooter/bike all year round.

Scooterists are also looking for adventure, 'Right, if we just go across the moors we'll be at Scarborough before tea time" Scooterists are also looking for adventure, ‘Right, if we just go across the moors we’ll be at Scarborough before tea time”

One thing I’ve always found with Tucano though is that they don’t do any heavier duty year-round textile bottoms, you know the kind. A favourite pair of armoured trousers that you can wear summer or winter and know they’re up to the job. Well, Tucano has addressed the problem and launched a new sub-brand, a brand they’re marketing towards adventure or touring motorcyclists.

Adventure scootering?

It surprised me that they’ve not hedged their bets with this one and given us long distance scooter riders some thought. I think the Italians believe scooters are only ridden for commuting and a lap cover or handlebar muffs are all we need. It surprised the people at Tucano when I said many of us ride scooters the length and breadth of the UK and across Europe (or further afield) for fun.

T.ur

This new sub-brand was launched by a load of adventure riders and journalists riding off-road in the desert. That’s all well and good targeting the bike side of adventuring but it’s not much good to us as we head to Scarborough at Easter on our vintage scooters, holding on to bits as they drop off, rain lashing at us as we take 10 hours to cover a trip that should take less than three. This is what adventure riding on smaller wheels is all about and T.ur should be just as good for us as it is for the BMW GS brigade.

T.ur – The Spirit of Adventouring

T.ur is a brand new offshoot of the main Tucano brand, obviously aimed at the booming adventure/touring sector.

The first garments due in spring 2019 comprise of the J-One jacket and the cheaper J-Two jacket. It’s a three-layer system of clothing for the top half.

J-One jacket

  • Firstly it’s a smart looking under jacket, a jacket you can use as a ‘go to the pub’ coat when you’re off the scooter
  • That’s followed by a high spec textile and leather touring jacket. It’s been designed from scratch and has all the ventilation you’ll ever need, with mesh panels zipping out when you need to be cool, closed back up when the temperature drops. The jacket itself isn’t waterproof on its own. It’s designed to be light and functional, we all know how heavy a jacket can be when it gets wet.
  • It has space for a hydration pack, fixing for an action camera and all the features you expect in a full-on adventure jacket.
  • New D30 level 2 ventilated armour debuts on this jacket, also uses YKK zips, Cordura and Thermore insulation.
  • CE certified to Class AA
  • The third part of this system is the waterproof over jacket, a 100% waterproof and breathable jacket. The waterproof top is stowed in a rear pocket of the jacket.
  • J-ONE £439.99 (J-Two £299.99)

P-ONE Trousers

The P-ONE Cordura trousers are to be used with either jacket. They’re also full touring spec, come with the new D30 ventilated armour and you get a set of super compact Hydroscud waterproof over trousers with them, they stow in the side cargo pocket. There’s an optional thermal liner as well for £59.99.

The only downside for me with a system like this is that I end up kidding myself the rain isn’t wet enough to worry about for 30 miles longer than I should have done before stopping to reluctantly put my jacket and trousers on whilst already wet. Maybe that’s just me though?

The P-ONE trousers cost £219.99

More to come

This new T.ur adventure range is just the start of a new direction for Tucano. There were also a couple of T.ur luggage bags on show, as well as gloves and you know there will be more to come. The jacket and trousers combo will no doubt pave the way for more similar all-year-round textiles for us idiotic long-distance riders. I’d be happy to wear this one though for the time being…
