Yamaha Europe revealed its not too distant future in the video posted above. Although the Japanese firm has a long history with battery-power dating back over 30 years and had a lovely retro eScooter called the Frog as far back as 1991 they’ve been lagging behind a bit with urban mobility.
Not any more though. Yamaha has a full range of eBikes and scooters almost ready for action. They’ll kick off their European ‘Switch on’ campaign this spring with the reinvention of an old name. The Yamaha Neo’s (second left above) has been around since 1997 but has been reimagined for the electric future. We’ll bring you more details about that 50cc equivalent as soon as we can.
They also have the 125cc equivalent E01 (second left) almost ready to go but the marketing strategy for that is a little unusual. Yamaha plans to drop a sharing fleet of them in a large European city and let people ride them for two or three years. Any changes can then be made before it goes into general production.
One new concept that caught our eye was the B01 pedelec (see a bit more about that in the video). With its unique styling, trellis frame, multi-spoked wheels and fat tyres this crossover machine will certainly turn a few heads. It’s been developed with the help of Fantic Motors and will be built at their Italian factory. Aside from the B01, Yamaha also set their stall out with regards to eBikes. There will be a full range (starting later this year) of mountain bikes, gravel bikes and city bikes. All with the new Yamaha ‘Aqua’ detailing which they’re using to brand the ‘Switch On’ range.
