Ahhh, the image above was how ScooterLab’s original landing page looked on this day in 2016. Yes, SLUK is six years old today!
Back in late 2015 Sticky and myself had become disheartened with writing for the corporate-owned scootering press and decided it was time for a fresh start for the new digital age. After months of work behind the scenes (we’d already given up our freelance careers and incomes) it was finally time to publish ScooterLab – or SLUK as it quickly became known. Since then 2.5 million unique users with an interest in scooters have visited ScooterLab and non-English speaking visitors can auto-translate it to their own language.
Escaping The Facility
After escaping the relative security of ‘The Facility’, loveable dog, Capstan and his chimp sidekick, Bunsen (I’m not sure who was meant to be who but neither myself or Sticky smoke) set out to revolutionise the way scooterists got their news and reviews. Bringing it directly to your computer screen, tablet or more likely mobile device meant you could get up to date information from a trusted independent source as it happened. The other thing was that SLUK was FREE to read, meaning it was accessible to anybody with an interest in scooters and an internet connection.
Over time things have evolved. Sticky left the full-time chaos of ScooterLab in late 2017 to enable him to sit in his dressing gown, pondering and writing books (as well as features for SLUK of course). He still produces some fantastic work for us, so all ended well.
SLUK Plastics™
After Sticky jilted me at the altar I was left with the chaos of SLUK, as well as the new online SLUK Shop. The retail side of things was never part of the plan! We’d only ever thought about selling a few t-shirts. But, working with our plastic supremo Nigel to develop the original Lambretta Coast 2 Coast screens lead to us inventing/developing and manufacturing an ever-growing range of SLUK Plastics™.
We currently make and sell over 70 plastic scooter products, all hand-made in the UK by (and for) scooter riders. After development was curtailed during Covid we’ve finally got some new products in development for the Vespa PX, Lambretta and Vespa GTS, we’re also planning a new screen for Vespa Smallframe riders.
First up though will be a universal Ram-Air panel scoop (pictured above). Designed to cover the carburettor hole and drive fresh cool air directly to your carb. This should look cool, and help to keep your side panel cleaner, as well as keeping water out of your carb whilst parked up. It can also be frenched in and sprayed so it can look like part of your panel.
Advertising
Of course, a FREE online magazine couldn’t survive without any regular revenue so I’d like to thank our regular advertisers (and anybody else who has advertised with us so far) for helping to keep things afloat, much appreciated. You can see the current regular advertisers below. Use them and their services whenever possible please.

Thanks to you lot!
Of course, none of this would be possible without our loyal readers, customers, friends, or our freelancers and contributors. Thanks to you all. Remember, we’re always looking out for news, new products, features, road trip stories and anything else scooter related. You can email us at: editorial@scooterlab.uk
Let’s all look forward to a great scooter riding year in 2022, I hope to see you on the road or at a bar in some far-away town miles from home.
All the best
Iggy

Happy birthday Iggy lad and keep it coming, the scene needs your down-to-earth scooter boy approach more than ever now. Love the site, especially the reviews and your build videos – cheers for that tip on shimming the crank on the 251 btw, never heard/read that before and at long last I understand why the engine noise changes when I pull the clutch! All the best Phil
Happy 6th Birthday SLUK, another twelve and we’ll see you in the pub.
I’m hoping I’ll be in the pub by Easter!
Here’s to another 6 years and more I hope …carry on with your good work …
Mark
Thanks Mark 🙂
Hippy 6th Burpday Slukers team,
