Well, that escalated quickly! I’m sure large numbers of SLUK readers are waking up to a very different way of life this morning. With many countries already in lockdown and the UK looking highly likely to follow suit later this week, you’ll be either working from home (if it’s possible in your particular job and you’re not a key worker), not working at all – or not having a clue what you should be doing, especially if you’re self-employed.
Stay safe!
Whatever you’re doing though it’s time to take this coronavirus malarkey very seriously. Don’t be thinking you’re clever by meeting up with mates for a ride out, or going to Whitby at Easter just because you’ve got a hotel booked. Listen to all the relevant advice and make informed and intelligent decisions. Our freedom of movement is about to be taken away from us and the sooner we keep ourselves to ourselves, the quicker things will start to get back to normal and we can start having fun on our scooters again.
Non event
The first two National Rallies (Whitby and Tenby) have already been cancelled, most other club events due until May (or later) have also been scrapped. The LCGB Championship has also been put on hold, as has the VCB Rider’s Regional Championship. That means we’ll have no scooter events to cover for the time being (and foreseeable future), which means we have less content for the website. It also means we can’t go out to do new features and it’s highly likely riding for pleasure will be out of the window too.
Business as normal
Even though things are pretty grim out there, SLUK will continue as normal, we’ll still be bringing you all; the regular scooter news, reviews and features but those stories are going to dry up pretty quickly if nothing is happening. That’s where we need your help.
Why don’t you?
Most Scooterists will have a story to tell, a tip to share, an adventure to write about, a build to show us, or a collection to show off. Do your bit for SLUK and let us know about it. You don’t have to be the world’s best writer but most people can put a story together and take a few photos. So why don’t you just switch off your television set and go and write for SLUK instead?
If you’d like to do your bit for the COVID-19 war effort you can email us at: editorial@ScooterLab.UK
Have you got new products to show off?
If you’re a scooter shop, tuner, supplier, manufacturer or distributor and have new products to shout about get in touch with us. ScooterLab has the largest readership of any scooter media source, we can get your products seen by more of the people that count.
Get in touch at editorial@scooterlab.uk and we’ll see what we can do to help spread the word.
SLUK Shop open 24/7
As things stand right now, the Royal Mail is still working hard in the UK to send and deliver our mail (obviously with extra hygiene and distancing rules in place. The couriers are still delivering as normal both at home and abroad – that means throwing your parcels as far as possible in the case of some of them 🙂
Order your online goodies whilst things can still get out…
Post as normal
Whilst the post is still getting out we’ll continue to make our SLUK Plastics (Nigel our plastic supremo works alone so is pretty safe). If you’re in Germany (or other parts of Europe outside the UK) you can order our plastics direct from SIP – they stock all of our Vespa & Lambretta plastics. I’m sure they’d appreciated the business in the current climate so feel free to order direct from them and save yourself some Euros on postage.
Most of our other products get sent directly from the suppliers/publishers so will go out whilst they’re still able to work.
SLUK Supporters
Our t-shirts are sent direct from SLUK HQ and the latest ‘SLUK Supporters’ shirts will be going out as soon as they’re printed in the next couple of days. Thanks for all the pre-orders on those, much appreciated.
ScooterNova Magazines & subscriptions
Independent magazine publication, ScooterNova relies on scooter rallies and events to sell their mag to Scooterists. SLUK also sell the magazine through our online shop but that costs Paypal fees and a small commission.
It would help ScooterNova if you could all subscribe to the magazine or buy the latest (or back issues) copy directly from them at this present time. Visit their online shop here. You can also buy their merchandise, magazine binders, keyrings, badges and stickers.
Keep the morale going
Although times are very uncertain we’ll get through this horrid disease. Let’s do our bit to keep in touch with friends and family, try and keep things lighthearted where possible. It’s also time to get those neglected projects finished (not just the DIY type).
Stay safe everybody and look after yourself and your loved ones
