BSSO #1 Croft | SCOOTER SPORT

The first weekend in April saw the BSSO scooter racing championships kicking off at Croft, Teeside. Dismal weather greeted riders for Saturday’s races, not perfect conditions for the Italian Casa Lambretta Racing team who will be over for the full season this year. Luca Fuschini suffered a warm up crash, which left his Lambretta needing major surgery before race one. He also binned it in the second race, remounted (against the rules) and was black flagged. Team mate Luca Zani got a third and a second though. The Italians came good on the Sunday with a 1st and 2nd in the final race. Luca Fuschini also set a new lap record with a blistering 1:45.026 lap. 

 

Group 4 

 

SRP Racetec’s Chris Geyton took two well deserved wins on Saturday but that was equalled on Sunday by Replay Racing’s Steven Connelly.

 

Group 6

 

Mikey Bonnett and Damon Tunnicliffe took a win each on Saturday in group 6, Mikey also took a win on Sunday but decided to throw it down the track in the final race after getting himself over excited on pre-race Red Bull. The Casa boys dominated race two though.

 

LCGB Production Class

 

The new LCGB supported Production Class saw some good close racing between the four entrants. Zack Tingle took two wins, Barrie Braithwaite took one and so did James Lancaster. More Production scooters are being built though so it’ll get busier as the season goes on, it’s a class to keep an eye on. 

 

Group 10

 

It was great to see #15 Zip rider, Dave Delaney back on track after a few years watching from the sidelines, Dave came away with four race wins – a great result. 

 

Group 6a

 

The larger capacity autos in Group 6a were dominated by Joe Ravenscroft and Lee Bamber, both riding Gilera Runner’s and taking two wins each. It’s worth mentioning the PM Tuning/PSN supported 179cc two-stroke Scomadi ridden by James Campen. Good to see one of the new breed autos being ridden by a former Lambretta racer. It’ll be interesting to see how that one develops over the season as James gets to grips with the unfamiliar machine. 

 

Slippery surface

 

The worst accident happened off the track, Rob Miller broke down mid race, joined his friends at the side of the track to watch the rest of the race and slipped down a muddy bank. He fell over and snapped his leg quite badly. Ouch. Get well soon Rob.
