Italian carburettor and fuelling specialists Dellorto have just launched a fabulous new website in both English and Italian. The jewel in the crown is the impressive and highly-interactive ‘Virtual Tour’ of the factory museum.

Can you find the Lambrettas on the Virtual Factory Tour? Can you find the Lambrettas on the Virtual Factory Tour?

You can tell from the exhibits that Dellorto have strayed a long way from the carburettors that were once the core product of the business. There’s a good reason for that – very few vehicles produce clean enough exhaust output using carburettors to meet modern emissions regulations.

For that reason, Dellorto have had to follow the market and now specialise in other forms of fuel supply and injection technologies. They also manufacture other internal combustion engine clean-up devices such as Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valves. With so much of the modern internal combustion engine being electronically-controlled, it’s no surprise that they’ve also branched-out into Electronic Control Unit (ECU) production to provide full unified control of the ignition as well as injection.

What about the carburettor?

Dellorto are still producing carburettors, though many dealers are currently reporting difficulties in getting supplies. SLUK has asked Dellorto if this is just a result of the pandemic and how soon it is likely to be resolved. Dellorto responded that they continued to work for all but one month of last year, however they have experienced unprecedented demand for carburettors due to people working on their vehicles during lockdown. Hopefully supplies will get back to normal in due course.

You’ll find information on the carburettor range in the Aftermarket section where they still supply carbs for karting and also vintage 2-stroke oddballs like the classic scooter crowd.

Hidden Gems

By far the most interesting and relevant section for scooterists is hidden away in the downloads section. There – in both Italian and English – you can download a PDF file of Dellorto’s carburettor manual for FREE.

This is quite an old book but it explains in detail the many functions of all the different parts of Dellorto’s range of conventional carburettors.

This isn’t just of use to people who run Dellorto carbs though, as many of their competitor’s carburettors operate in the same basic way. If you haven’t yet read a copy of this document then I highly recommend it. It’s at a price even Yorkshiremen would struggle to moan about!
